Geraldine "Gerry" (Owens) Garren

Geraldine “Gerry” Owens Garren, age 84, of Brevard, N.C., passed away on February 21, 2023, with her loving husband Carl by her side. Gerry was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Bobby, Faye, Jimmy, Alvin, John Henry, and William.

Gerry was born on March 18, 1938, to Sally Maggie Owens and William Morgan Owens in Brevard, N.C. Gerry graduated from Brevard High School. She met and married Carl Lee Garren on June 30, 1963. Gerry became the beloved “Mama” to William Bruce Garren, Michelle Garren-Flye, and Robert “Bobby” Henry Garren.

A well-known lover of all animals from squirrels and chipmunks to puppies and kittens, Gerry spent much of her time in her later years devoted to rescuing homeless cats. She and Carl were generous supporters of animal rescues both local and national.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; children, Bruce, Michelle, and Bobby; grandchildren, Nichole Smith, Joshua Timothy Flye, Benjamin Morgan Flye, and Jessica “Jess” Caroline Flye; and great-grandchildren, Nolan, and Liam Smith.

A graveside service will be held 2:30 PM Friday, February 24, 2023 at Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery.
