Vivian Ritenour

Vivian Ritenour, 88, of Brevard, passed away on October 6, 2016. Born Vivian Ruth Broaddus on November 30, 1927 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Freda Leighty Broaddus. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Ritenour, her daughter Susan R. Seger; brothers Richard Broaddus and William Broaddus and her sister Frances B. Harris.

Vivian attended public schools in Greensburg and then was employed as a secretary for Sears-Roebuck & Co. in Greensburg. She first met Arthur Ritenour in 1948 and they were married in 1949. Their union produced three daughters. After family moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania in 1956, Vivian worked for the Indiana School System before earning her Licensed Practical Nurse diploma from Indiana County Vocational College. She was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association where she remained until her retirement. She relocated to Brevard, NC in 1992 and was instrumental in establishing and was an active member of the Transylvania Animal Advocacy Group. She was also a volunteer at Sharing House. She was a member of St. Timothy's United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir.

She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters: Charlynn Bailey and husband Rhodearland of Pittsburgh, PA, and Tricia Ritenour-Paige and husband Larry of Pisgah Forest, NC; grandchildren Launa Harris and husband James of Covington, LA, Jenifer Doyle and husband Cormac of Durham, NC, Jennifer Aldabe and husband John of North Pole, AK, Christine Burgest and husband Alton of Spring Hill, FL, and Ashton Heatherly and husband Jordan of El Paso, TX; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Vivian Ritenour will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at St. Timothy's United Methodist Church in Brevard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either the Transylvania Animal Advocacy Group or to the Forever Farm.
