Virginia Wilkerson

Virginia Adeline "Addie" Wilkerson, 88, of Brevard, NC passed away September 14, 2016. A native of Dry Fork, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Estelle Giles Dodd. A graduate of Averett College and Longwood College in business education, she pursued lifelong learning opportunities through travel, painting and craft classes, genealogy, Bible study, reading, and gardening.
Mrs. Wilkerson is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert I. Wilkerson Jr.; daughter Mary Arnaudin and husband Steven of Brevard, NC; son Robert I. Wilkerson III and wife Vanessa of Vidalia, GA.; grandchildren: Edwin Arnaudin and wife Sarah of Asheville, NC; Elin Arnaudin of Christchurch New Zealand; Seth Wilkerson of Savannah, GA.; Caitlin Whitaker and husband Zack and their children Silas and Edie Rae of Vidalia, GA.
Addie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor known for her gracious hospitality. During her over 50 years in Eden she was an active member and leader in the Town & Country Garden Club, History Club, Border Book Club, and United Methodist Women. At Leaksville United Methodist she worked with the prayer shawl and children's ministries, served as lay leader, and was a delegate to Annual Conference at Lake Junaluska. Upon moving to College Walk, she quickly made friends and was especially close to her fellow art class members.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Wilkerson will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Brevard First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Holder and Rev. Lauren Sims-Salata officiating. The family will receive friends in the church's gathering space at 10:30 a.m. and move to the chapel for the service. A reception will be held October 1, 2016 in Eden at Leaksville United Methodist Church's fellowship hall from 1:00 - 2:00pm followed by a graveside service at Highland Burial Park in Danville, Virginia at 4:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Averett University or to the children's ministries at Leaksville United Methodist Church or Brevard First United Methodist Church.
