Velma Rogers

Velma Brown Rogers, 81, of Etowah, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on December the 19th after an extended illness.  Born in Brevard on December 9th, 1941, she was the only daughter of the late Lester John Brown and Stella Hipps Brown of Etowah.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lewis Brown and Joel Kay Brown

Velma grew up in Brevard and graduated from Brevard High School in 1961. Out of high school, she went to work at Olin in Pisgah Forest. After dating a couple of years, Velma married William B. Rogers on November 24th, 1961 at Glady Branch Baptist Church.  They were married for 61 years.  They moved to Etowah, where they lived for almost 60 years. Velma was a long time member of Etowah Baptist Church, where she was active in mission support activities. Her working life consisted of being secretary at Etowah Baptist Church, at Etowah Elementary School, Hendersonville Middle School, French Broad Baptist, and the Etowah Lions Club.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband, William B. Rogers; two sons, Brack Rogers of Iron Station NC, his wife Donna Stafford Rogers and their daughter, Hannah Rogers and Mark Rogers of Etowah, his wife Tana Rogers and their daughter, Ella Rogers; and survived by her oldest brother, Johnny Mack Brown. She leaves behind sisters in love, Patricia Hooper and her husband, Grady and their family, Frances Jones and her family, Ruby Sprouse and her family as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December, 23, 2022 at  Etowah Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Noe officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Gardens in Pisgah Forest immediately following the service.
