Veda L. Goldsmith

Veda Erwin Goldsmith, 92, of Pisgah Forest, NC, passed away on April 13, 2024. Veda Erwin Goldsmith was born at Balfour, NC, in 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Allen Erwin and Bertie Matthews Erwin. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Tommie Goldsmith, and a sister, Virginia Erwin Huntley of Bat Cave.

She graduated from Mills River High School in 1950.  She pursued continuing education classes in Art at Blue Ridge Tech for several years in the 1970s and 80s.  In her professional career, she retired from MB Industries in Rosman, NC after more than 20 years.

Veda married the Rev. Tommie Russel Goldsmith in 1957.  She is survived by a daughter, Julia Lynn Goldsmith, and a son, Benjamin Erwin Goldsmith, both of Pisgah Forest; a brother Oliver (Ollie) Allen Erwin of Arden; a niece Sheilia Huntley Wasch and her children Rachel and Spenser of Fletcher; a nephew Scott Goldsmith and his wife Cherie and son Colton of Penrose; a nephew Kevin Goldsmith and his wife Missy and daughter Annabelle of Penrose. 

She began her Christian ministry as a church pianist in her teens, a position she served in for 73 years.  She served in churches at Balfour, Carson Creek, Zion, Lake Toxaway, Little Cove, Dunns Creek, and finally at Blantyre Baptist church where she played until just the last few years.  She sang in the Balfour Trio. 

Veda was a no-frills person and requested graveside rights which will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery, with Chaplin Kevin Morgan and Rev. Ron Nelson officiating.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Mills River Life Enrichment Center (Ruth Williams: Director) at Mills River Methodist church, or to the Elizabeth House Hospice Center in Hendersonville.
