Susan Horn

January 30, 1947 — February 15, 2018

Brevard, North Carolina

Susan Lucky Horn, 71, of Brevard, NC died February 15, 2018 after a brief and brave battle with cancer. She was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She was born in Ruston, Louisiana and after graduating first in her class at Jonesboro-Hodge High School, she attended Louisiana Tech University, eventually earning her masters degree in mathematics. After teaching in several high schools in Louisiana, Sue and her family moved to Brevard, NC in 1977. She got a job teaching math at Brevard College and worked there until she retired in 2005. She was considered to be a great teacher, encouraging and inspiring many students.

Sue was not only great with numbers, she was also artistic and possessed a pair of the greenest thumbs in the county. She and her husband Wayne traveled extensively in Europe as well as New Zealand and many other beautiful and unique places in North America. After retirement, when not traveling, she spent her time gardening, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. One of her most interesting hobbies was origami. She folded some absolutely beautiful pieces and went to her grandchildren's school to teach others how to do this beautiful and challenging art form.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Marguerite Lucky. Sue is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Wayne Horn, her daughter Amanda and husband Travis, her treasured grandchildren Samuel and Marguerite Coyne, all of Brevard, and her brother Robert Lucky of Castor, LA.

There will be a private memorial service held at a later date.

The family wants to thank hospice for their wonderful help and kindness during this difficult time.

Memorials can be made to the Transylvania County Library, 212 S. Gaston Street, Brevard, NC 28712 and The Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Brevard, 11 Gallimore Road, Brevard, NC 28712.
