Rosalie Ahrens Galloway, 87, formerly of 112 Wilson Drive, died Sunday, March 1, 2009. For the past several years, she was a resident of the Oaks of Brevard.
She was born in New London, Connecticut in 1921, but grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1939, she moved to Brevard with her parents, the late Edward Ahrens and Mary Rose Ahrens, and her sister, Doris Postman, who passed away in 2007. In 1944, she married Alfred Galloway, remaining his faithful wife and companion until his death in 1995. For most of her adult life she was a homemaker, though she worked at Ecusta during the 1940s and with Brevard Moving and Storage in the 1960s and 1970s. She joined the Brevard Davidson-River Presbyterian Church in 1942 and served as a Sunday School teacher and circle leader, and she had a special interest in the Presbyterian Home for Children at Black Mountain.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Baynard, of Pisgah Forest; son, Lee Galloway of Waynesville; grandchildren, Kristi Brown of Rosman, Kim Hall of Brevard, Zach Galloway of Tallahassee, Florida, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Queen officiating. Interment will be in Pisgah Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Moore Funeral Home prior to the services.
To help find a cure for the disease from which Mrs. Galloway suffered, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association - Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
