Robert Steffen

Brevard - Robert L. Steffen, 88, of Brevard died, Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

He was a son of the late Leon and Cecile Greenleaf. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Steffen who died in 1971. He served in the Navy during WWII on the SS Randolph. Mr. Steffen worked for Buick Motor Division, General Motors for 35 years where he was head of purchasing. In 1986 he moved to Hendersonville and in 1988 he moved to College Walk Retirement Center, Brevard, North Carolina where he was a member of Brevard Wesleyan Church. He was an avid golfer and at one time Governor of the Michigan Golf Association and very active in junior golf.



He graduated from Central High School in Flint, MI in 1938 as a five letter man.



Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Doris M. Steffen of Brevard, one daughter: Carolyn E. Bunch and husband Darrell of Page, AZ, two sons: Robert L. Steffen, Jr. of Page, AZ, James L. Steffen, of Palm Desert, CA., one sister: Betty Brandon and husband Earl of Flushing, MI., two step-daughters: Gayle King of Palm Desert, CA., and Cathy Smith of Swartz Creek, MI., seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.



A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 20, 2008 at Brevard Wesleyan Church with Rev. Hank Moffitt officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint, MI.



The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
