Brevard - Robert L. Daniels, 85, died February 1, 2008 at Transylvania County Hospital in Brevard, North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rachel Cathey Daniels. The couple made their home in Brevard.

He was the son of the late Mary Byrd and Albert Daniels of Asheville, N.C., where he grew up. He was a veteran of WWII. Mr. Daniels studied architecture at North Carolina State University and was licensed in architecture in 1953. His work is evident in many churches, homes and buildings in the area. Mr. Daniels was a long-time Scout Master in Brevard.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Albert and John Daniels.

Also surviving are sons Robert L. Daniels Jr. and his wife Connie of Penrose, N.C., Richard S. Daniels and his wife Peggy of Asheville; daughters R. Cathey Daniels and her husband Patrick Mulholland of Oak Ridge, TN and Mary B. Daniels and her partner Laurie Davison of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, John Daniels of Chapel Hill, N.C., Jordan Daniels of Greensboro, N.C., Rachel Garrison and her husband Matt of Fuquay, N.C., Sam Daniels of Asheville, Anna Taubenheim and her husband Ty of Knoxville, TN, Rick Daniels-Mulholland of Knoxville, and Joe Daniels-Mulholland of Oak Ridge; brother Lewis Daniels of Asheville and sister Mary Byrd Daniels of Asheville.

His memorial service will be held Sunday, February 3, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 325 S. Broad Street, Brevard, where he was member for 53 years. Memorials may be made in Mr. Daniels' honor to the "Rachel Cathey Daniels Mathematics Scholarship" at Brevard College, 1 Brevard College Drive, Brevard N.C. 28712; or to the Transylvania County Library, 212 South Gaston Street, Brevard.
