Richard A. Gravatt died on August 19, 2009 from complications of COPD. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Mr. Gravatt graduated from Rutgers University and served as an infantry officer for four years during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Gravatt is survived by one son, Rick, Jr. and his wife Gladys and their two children, Brooke and Michael of Winston-Salem and a beloved daughter, Sara Champion of Brevard and her two children, Beth and Matthew of Boone. Mr. Gravatt is also survived by a brother, Roger Gravatt and wife Kay of Portsmouth, VA. Mr. Gravatt fondly remembers a very dear friend, Vicky Evans of Draper, VA.

There will be no local services. Cremated remains will be distributed over the waters of St. Croix Flowage in his beloved Maine in a private memorial at a later date.

Many thanks for all the loving care and support from the staff of College Walk and from Four Seasons Hospice of Henderson County.
