July 28, 1939 — March 19, 2023

Brevard, NC

Patsy Deavers Farley, 83, of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Patsy was a country girl, born in the mountains of West Virginia to her parents, John and Elma McGinnis Deavers, near the small town of Independence.

Her father’s work moved the family south to the relatively large town of Montgomery, WV while Pat remained with her widowed grandmother. Her close relationship with “Gom” was based in their sharing a strong faith in God.

Pat joined her family to attend high school in Montgomery, where she excelled as a student, finishing third in her class. Her strong secretarial skills led her to work at the West Virginia State Capitol and work for government leader Chancy Browning. It was there she met her future and lifelong husband, Jim Farley.  Jim’s engineering career led them to Brevard, North Carolina and his work at the DuPont Medical X-Ray plant in Cedar Mountain. They were please to live in Brevard among friendly people and in a beautiful mountain area that felt like home.

Pat and Jim eventually became parents to two wonderful children, Timothy Alan and Laura Ann. Pat’s joy and wonder of being a mother was the highlight of her life.

Pat lived in a close relationship with God. Her faith was a simple one, not complicated with details but a continuous daily conversation with Him.  She saw answers to prayers in her life and excitedly point to them.

Patsy in survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Jim; their children, Tim Farley (Christie) and Laura Long (Dan); her sister Sandy Nelson and brothers Bill Deavers (Janet) and Paul Deavers (Gloria). Very Special to her were her loving grandchildren: Evan, Stone and River Farley and Taylor Long (Cierra), Emillee Long, and Ashley Darnell (Elijah); and great-granddaughter Blakelynn Darnell.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina at P. O. Box 14608 Greensboro, NC 27415.
