Milly Lindgren

Milly Lindgren departed this life on January 22, 2009. Born Mildred Ferguson on April 24, 1922 in Lynbrook, New York, she married Vin Lindgren on June 10, 1944. Their partnership flourished for 54 years until his death in 1998. After raising their children in Connecticut, Milly and Vin "retired" to Noah's Place in Mills River, NC, a peaceful spot where they farmed, crafted delicious wine, and provided hospitality to many. In 1996 they moved to Brevard, NC. For over thirty years they were active members of St. Philip's Episcopal Church of Brevard. During this time, they helped found the mission church called Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Mills River.

Throughout her life, Milly was a mentor and friend to people of all ages. She listened to and laughed with them, prayed with and for them, guided and encouraged them. Milly was a reader and thinker as well as a terrific cook and gardener, and her kind spirit was balanced by her sure, sharp wit. Milly's relationship to Jesus was the center of her life, and her faith was inspirational.

Milly is survived by her son Vin and his wife Kathy, her daughter Ellen Lindgren, her daughter Joan George and her husband Dave, and by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as by numerous godchildren and friends. Her family wishes to thank her loving caregivers and steadfast friends who gave her comfort and joy in her last years.

A celebration of Milly's life will be held at 4:30 p.m. on February 15 at St. Philip's Church followed by a meal in keeping with Milly's hospitality.
