Mary Vorus

Mary Ware “Missy” Vorus, 80, of Brevard, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Born in Florence, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Mary Ware Vorus. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Henry Ware Vorus.

After graduating from Converse College and UNC Chapel Hill, Missy lived out her love of traveling the world as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, The Skylarks, and Independent Airlines while raising her family. She also loved working as a real estate agent for Northside Realty in Atlanta, GA. In her later years she settled into her beloved mountaintop home in Brevard, NC to spend time painting, gardening, reading, playing with her golden retrievers and enjoying time with her family.

Her loving survivors include her children: William “Billy” Cowart and Heath Cowart (Melinda Hendershott); granddaughter, Kaia Tope-Cowart; brother William Vorus (Julie) and her sister, Ann Parkhurst (Jack); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 9, 2022 in the family section of Dunn’s Creek Cemetery on See Off Mountain Road in Brevard with Rev. Shelly Webb officiating.
