Mary Thompson

July 24, 1932 — October 29, 2022

Brevard, NC

Mary B. Thompson, 90, of Brevard, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022. A native of Macon, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Martha Brumback. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Nath Thompson, her twin sister, Martha Dunwoody, and her grandson, Thompson Tayloe.

Mary worked at both Camp Carolina and Rockbrook Camp in the office for all together about 40 years. She was a unique individual, dressed “to the nines” every day, and wasn’t afraid to tell it like it was. She had a great sense of humor, was an avid gardener, always up for an adventure, a generous tipper, and never let us forget that she was Miller High School Ping Pong Champion. She enjoyed North Carolina Tarheel basketball, but she loved her Georgia Bulldogs.

She supported her husband, Nath Thompson, when he was aging and struggling with dementia. She always supported her family and friends when they needed help.

Her loving survivors include her children: Kimbrough Tayloe (Ryal), Alfred Thompson (Mary-Eccles) and Charles Thompson (Linda Seebantz); her grandchildren: Ryal Tayloe (Laura), Mary-Rosser Kendall (Bruce), Alfred Thompson, Jr (Emily), and Bren Hogan (Alex); and great-grandchildren: Nath Kendall, Finn Kendall, Wood Tayloe and Hanlon Tayloe; and special cousin Kimbrough Donner (Beau); and her dog Buddy and her cat, Cookie.

She lived a great life — 90 amazing years. She loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, her extended family, and all of her friends.

The family will have a private service to honor Mary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either: Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to Camp Carolina Scholarship Fund, 1 Lambs Creek Road, Brevard, NC 28712.
