Luther Mcelyea

Luther Edward McElyea, Sr., 87, of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. A native of Lenoir City, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James M. and Lorene H. McElyea. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters Clara Jean McElyea and Anna M. Johnson.

A U.S. Army Veteran, he worked as a grocer after his time in the Army, coming home in 1955. He loved children and became a “neighborhood grandparent”, teaching and helping children as well as taking them fishing.

His loving survivors include his wife of 59 years, Judith McElyea; their son Luther Edward “Eddie” McElyea and his wife Cindy; his sisters: Katie McNeil and husband Marshall of Boiling Springs, SC, Linda Horton  of Spartanburg and Doris Cannon  and husband Jim of Spartanburg, and his brother James M. McElyea, JR and his wife Frieda of Inman, SC.

Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to assist with medical expenses.
