Kathryn McMillan Lessor

Kathryn McMillan Lessor, 100, of Brevard, passed away on June 3, 2024, with her caregivers by her side.  Born in Sparta, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Maude McMillan.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Ralph Howard Lessor, Jr., and her son Bruce H. Lessor.

She attended high school at the Oak Hill Academy. Kathryn went on to attend Jones Business College in high point, NC.  Her first job was with the Air Force in Greensboro, NC where she met her husband, who she married on August 26, 1946. She was also employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Texas and also the courts in Fairfax, VA.

Kathryn and Lt. Col. Lessor traveled to Spain where Ralph’s Air Force duties took them. They lived in Spain with their 3 children for 7 years. After duty in Spain, they then traveled back to Washington, DC for 8 years, after which time they retired to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Sapphire, NC.

Kathryn had many hobbies, including gardening, sewing, quilting, playing golf and bridge. Kathryn also founded the Toxaway Falls Garden Club and was a member for 35 years.

She enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Europe with her husband.

Kathryn is survived by two daughters: Cynthia Davis and Merrianne Nichols; two grandchildren: Tyler and Benjamin; and 3 great-granddaughters.  She also leaves behind 2 loving, compassionate caregivers: Cindy and Lisa; and one very special cat named Bandit.

No local services are scheduled.

Inurnment will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
