Katherine Heinlein

Cashiers, North Carolina

Katherine Mary Kunz Heinlein, 91, of Cashiers, formerly of Warrenville and Wheaton, Illinois, passed away on January 8, 2016 at the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in Highlands, NC. A native of Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Magdeline Gall Kunz. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert G. Heinlein. Preceeding her in death were her 10 siblings. She has one living sister Veronica Trowe.

Mrs. Heinlein was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during World War II along with 5 of her brothers.

Katherine volunteered for the Wheaton Police Department for over 10 years. She volunteered in her later years at the Wheaton Food Pantry and she had many friends that she enjoyed walking and swimming with.

Katherine is survived by her nine children; Richard Heinlein (Sue), Kenneth Heinlein (Gayle), Deborah Heinlein, Mark Heinlein (Lauren), Paul Heinlein, Brain Heinlein (Sharon), Kristine Heinlein-Hilton (Bruce), David Heinlein (Shirley), Joseph Heinlein (Karen), 26 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Not too long before her death, Katherine said out loud, "do you realize I never earned a living." The response was, "not true mom, you just never earned a salary for all the years of dedication and service to your children." We love and honor you.

A Memorial Service and interment will be held in Chicago, Illinois at a later date.
