Juanita Trent

March 10, 1917 — October 18, 2009

Brevard, North Carolina

Juanita Simmons Trent passed away at the Brian Center on Sunday, October 18, 2009. She was surrounded by her loving family when she went to be with her Lord and Savior.
Her memorial service was held on October 21, 2009 at the Brian Center. In attendance were her family and friends and several residents and staff of the Brian Center...her second family.
She was born on March 10, 1917 in Lake Wales, Florida to James Edward and Katie Birdsie Collier. She was the eldest of four children. She met her future husband, Clarence "Pappy" Trent when working as a waitress in a small restaurant. It was love at first sight and they were married 5 short weeks later. They had one daughter, Rae Marie Trent Harris who was the center of their world. The Trent family lived in south Florida for many years. Juanita and Pappy worked for Kwik Chek which later became Winn-
Dixie. Juanita enjoyed visiting with her brothers and sister and their families, knitting, crocheting, sewing, needle point, and most any other type of craft. She was very creative. After retiring, she and Pappy moved to Titusville, Fl where she opened Nita's Knit Shoppe and was able to turn a hobby into a business. Her only child (and her family) moved to Brevard and soon thereafter, she and Pappy made the move to Brevard as well. That was in the fall of 1972. Juanita loved Brevard and all that this community had to offer. She started working at Grover's Office Supply and enjoyed not only the work...but the wonderful friends she made while employed there.
Upon the death of her daughter in 1985, she became a second mother to her four grandchildren. She was loving, supportive, and comforting. She offered advice, was a great listener, and offered a strong shoulder to cry on. She was never too busy to help out her family. She was so very excited when her great-grandchildren started arriving.
They brought her great joy and she was always delighted and eager to babysit.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Pappy Trent, her only child, Rae Marie Trent Harris, her brother E.B. Simmons and her parents.
Survivors include grandchildren Sue Harris Robinson and her husband Mark, Mayor Jimmy Harris and his wife Carri, Darah Paige Harris Trent and her husband Jeff, all of Brevard, Dr. Rachel Harris of Atlanta, Ga and C. Mabry Harris and his wife Shelby of Brevard. She also leaves behind her sister Colleen Reidmiller and her husband Jack of Jupiter, Fl and a brother Allen Simmons and his wife Jean of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. The great-grandchildren that Juanita adored include Mabry and Greer Marie Robinson, Quinn, Cassi, and Calla Harris, and Sophia Marie and Bella Trent. There are also several nieces and nephews that are saddened by this loss.
Juanita spent the last several years of her life at the Brian Center. The staff showed her Love and Compassion, Dignity and Respect. The Brian Center became her "home." In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Brian Center Activity Dept. PO Box 1096, Brevard, NC 28721.
