J Roger Petit, age 66, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 13th, 2022. He was surrounded by his wife of almost 44 years and daughter. Roger was born on April 30th, 1955, to Charles and Shirley Petit. Being a military family, he lived many places during his younger years but settled back home in Rosman where he attended Rosman High School and lived the rest of his time. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Petit, daughter Whitney (Curtis) Lorenz, brother Eric (Cindy) Petit, sister Sherry Hunter, as well as his extended family and various lifelong friends.
Roger was an entrepreneur who owned his own business, Petit’s Paint & Body Shop, for over 45 years. He was passionate about his profession, had a tremendous work ethic, and always took pride in any project he worked on. You could often find him tinkering on his corvette restorations after hours, always staying busy. While the body shop was his main occupation, Roger also owned other businesses in and around Transylvania County and was an Alderman for Rosman from 2006 through 2017. He always wanted to help those in the community and support the town in various ways. Roger was a man of integrity who many said “did things in his own way” and was often described as a risk taker who enjoyed a challenge.
Roger married the love of his life, Sharon, and they raised their daughter Whitney in Rosman. He was an incredible man who showed, through his actions, what it meant to be a real husband, father, and friend. Roger was a gifted hunter, and deer hunting in particular was his favorite fall activity. On the weekends you could often find him in Georgia either hunting, prepping his land and deer stands laying the groundwork for hunting season, or simply enjoying the outdoors around his hunting camp. He was always just as excited about seeing deer as hunting them.
Roger left this world as he lived, a kind, hardworking man with a witty sense of humor who will be missed by many. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday January 23, 2022, at Big Hill Cemetery with Rev. Marcus Dodson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
