John Leroy Landreth, 85, of Brevard, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023. A native of Transylvania County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Ralph H. and Deltha Reese Landreth.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Kitchen and Marie Guinn, and brothers Gertha Landreth and Kenneth Landreth.

He was a mission minded man, having gone on mission trips to the Phillipines, Dominican Republic and Mexico as well as numerous domestic missions such Black Mountain Women’s Prison Ministry, coal mine ministry in Kentucky and disaster relief work. He also served as a Gideon.

He volunteered in his community by serving in the Transylvania County Little League in its early stages as well as Dunn’s Rock Community Center and many other charities.

He had a passion for gardening, feeding both his family and others. He could be found in his garden most mornings.

He was generous with his time, talents and his love. He was willing to help anyone in need and never asking for anything in return. His love for his family was unmatched. His favorite day of the week was Sunday when his family would gather for Sunday dinner after church.

The only love that he had stronger than this was his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He faithfully served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Training Union director and an as an integral part of East Fork Baptist Church’s building program.  His love for the Lord was exampled through how he loved his wife, children and grandchildren was his most influential work.

His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Susie Landreth; their children: John Eric Landreth (Pam), Rebecca Ellen Green (Rob), Tammy Putnam (Kerry) and Jason Landreth (Shalana); grandchildren: Brittany, Rachael, Bronson, Kerstin, Alyssa, Aiden, Abdi, Nolan, Owen, Coleton, Maggie, Kera, Grant, Payton, Camryn, Gracie, Lillian and Addison and 8 great-grandchildren; his sister Joyce Ann Lovelace and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at East Fork Baptist Church in Brevard.

Graveside services will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the East Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, 8081 East Fork Road, Brevard, NC or to the Bread of Life, 238 S. Caldwell St. Brevard, NC 28712
