Joan "Joanie" Miller

Joan “Joanie” Miller, a resident of Carolina Reserve, passed away on December 16, 2023. 
She was born in Pryor, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Ilma LeMaster and James Eric LeMaster.  She graduated from Oklahoma State University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Phi Kappa Phi, national scholastic fraternity.  She was employed as a kindergarten teacher and children’s librarian in Florida for several years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell (D.L.) Miller of 67 years.

After moving to Brevard in 1989, Joan helped establish an after-school program at Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian church and served as director for three years.  She was a volunteer for many different local organizations and was an active member of First United Methodist church.

Survivors include her daughters Tracey McMahan and husband John of Hendersonville and Karen Cooper and husband Mike of Leicester.  Also, grandson Scott Oliver-Hricsina and wife Elspeth Oliver-Hricsina and great granddaughter Dorothy Oliver-Hricsina of Hendersonville and grandson Jordan Hotchkiss and wife Marquessa, and great-grandchildren Raelyn, Abel, and Bennett, of Candler.  Also, her brother David LeMaster and wife Lynda LeMaster of Mesa, Arizona.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of both Carolina Reserve and Four Seasons Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Joanie.

A private family service will be held in Brevard.
