Jessie Cecil "J.C." Daves

Jessie Cecil “J.C.” Daves, 79, of Brevard, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Transylvania County native, he was the son of the late Harvey and Willa Mae Ball Daves. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years, Sue Daves; his brothers Charles Daves and Harvey “Junior” Daves; and granddaughter, Lea Whitmire.

J.C. enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He enjoyed shooting but excelled at archery. He had a gift for repairing almost anything. From his work at Ecusta and later Transylvania Hospital, where he worked as Maintenance Manager, to fixing or repairing most anything around his house, or anyone else’s; whether it was something automotive, or plumbing, a watch, or even pulling out a splinter, J.C. had a way of using his gifts to help people: all people.

He loved doing things for and with his children and grandchildren, rarely missing a band concert or a ballgame, he enjoyed being with them, because he cared for them. That was the essence of J.C.: he was a caregiver who truly loved his family, his friends, and all the people around him. He especially loved and cared for his wife, Sue. He was the way a man is supposed to be.

J.C. is survived by his children and step-children: Chris Daves (Ann), Amy Daves (Phillip Galloway), Billy McCoy (Nicole), Tanya McCoy (Stacey Whitmire), Richard Whitmire, Becky Whitmire and Tim Whitmire; grandchildren: Christopher Daves, Elizabeth Daves, Tyler Williams, Chayse Lewis, Maleah Hawkins, Mason Galloway, Langston Whitmire, Gabriel Whitmire, Eric Whitmire, Tamara Mel, Melissa Jones, Sara Kersey and Jesse Bullock; his brother Ronnie Daves and a number of great-grandchildren.

Arrangements for the celebration of J.C.’s life will be announced in the coming days.
