Janette Frances Ziegler

Janette Frances Raines Ziegler passed away peacefully in her home after a relatively brief battle with Alzheimers. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Polly Darcus and Katherine Ruth Ziegler; Mama and Papa, Katie and Van Buren Waldrop; her parents, Leo Rutledge and Polly Darcus Raines; twin sister, Jennie Wilde and her husband Kadez; sisters Louise Moffit and her husband Jim and Christina Raines; brothers Calvin and Doug Raines and his wife Mary; and foster siblings Margaret Collins, Georgia Allison, Tabitha King, Ray, V.B., and Auburn Waldrop.

She is survived by her cherished husband of nearly 74 years, Charles H. Ziegler; son Russell Ziegler and wife, Vivien; son Van Ziegler; daughter Rhonda Brown and husband, Kenny; daughter, Sandra Ziegler; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 great- great-grandchildren, and her dear cousin/sister, Betty Sanford, as well as many nieces and nephews who were very dear; and her best friend, Frances Landreth.

Janette lived her life in service to others, sacrificing her time and comfort happily to nourish and comfort those she could help. There were few years when she and Charles did not gladly shelter someone in their home and she took such pride and pleasure in providing them with delicious hot meals, fresh clean laundry, and a welcoming hearth. Working with Charles in building their trout farm, she welcomed fellow farmers, workers, and various agents with hot coffee and, more often than not, a meal that included her famous cornbread.  She was "the sweet lady on the phone" to countless folks who called when they were looking for their perfect Christmas tree. She delighted in serving with Vacation Bible School at Cherryfield Baptist Church, and in singing the good old hymns as she went about her work. She loved to garden, loved to feed and watch the birds, loved travel, and, simply, loved! Her quiet gentle presence will be sorely missed.

After a private burial, the arrangements for a celebration to honor Mrs. Ziegler will be held at Cherryfield Baptist Church at a later date.
