Jameson Courtine

September 6, 2009 — February 27, 2019

Pisgah Forest, North Carolina

Jameson Adair Courtine, 9, of Pisgah Forest, a third grade student at Brevard Elementary School, passed away at home after a sudden illness Feb. 27. He was the loving and much-loved son of Dan and Erica Courtine.
Jameson was known by family, friends and schoolmates for his warm and giving nature, whose blue eyes danced in upside down crescents during ever-ready smiles and laughter.
"Our hearts are heavy," said one of his teachers the day he died. Referring to a wall of tributes already posted by Jameson's classmates a day later, she said. "The kids have expressed so much love and many memories of sweet Jameson!"
In addition to the wall of tributes, the third graders posted more tearful messages on a teachers' internet app. "I will miss you a whole bunch," wrote one classmate. "You are the best kid in the school!" Another wrote, "Jameson is an awesome friend. When someone is sad, he helps them. One day I was sad, then he helped me. So he is my best friend ever."
Jameson loved the outdoors and all sports, especially soccer, basketball and baseball. Though his family moved into the area just last summer, in the fall he was already playing in a county youth soccer league. This spring he was to play in Little League baseball.
Jameson was an amazing big brother. He taught Rhys how to solve a Rubik's cube, how to make a 3-pointer, and patiently taught Rhys how to play chess and a variety of games and puzzles. He also taught Rhys all about American Ninja Warrior and Duke Basketball.
He was a bright student, earning top grades in school and reading constantly. He was one of the county library's best young customers, checking out piles of books monthly.
Jameson was born Sept. 6, 2009 in Raleigh. He was a member of Brevard Community Church. Jameson was baptized last May, and he was often times seen at home reading the Bible by his own choice. He made a big impact on his youth pastor and was selected to begin a special Discovery class due to his love of God.
He is survived by his parents, both fifth grade teachers in the Transylvania County School System; his brother, Rhys, 8; grandfathers Raymond Tuers, of Connestee Falls, and Daniel Courtine, of Ashville, NY; two uncles; three aunts, and five cousins.
A service celebrating his life is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 8 at Brevard Community Church.
The Jameson Courtine Memorial Service Fund has been created to let Jameson's legacy live on in his community. Tax-deductible donations can be made at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1443146 by clicking on Jameson's fund in the drop down menu. Checks may be made payable to CFWNC with The Jameson Courtine Memorial Service Fund in the memo line. Checks may be sent to CFWNC, The Jameson Courtine Memorial Service Fund, 4 Vanderbilt Park Drive, Suite 300, Asheville, NC 28803.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the funeral home and will eventually be used to show Jameson's heart and give back to the community. The family hopes to build a Ninja Warrior Course in Jameson's honor for kids in the town to enjoy.
