James William (Rowe) Cornwell

James "Jimmy" William (Rowe) Cornwell of Penrose, NC passed away on Aug 2, 2018 at his home with family by his side.

He was born Feb 24, 1938 in Arcadia, Florida, to the late Vivian Mullens and James Harold Rowe. After his fathers' passing in WWII, his mother and younger sister Camille, moved to Long Island, NY to be with family.

Years later, his Mom met and married Howard Cornwell who adopted Jim and Camille. He grew up in Mineola, Long Island, NY and worked after school at Alray Collision and started a career in the Auto Body business. He owned Terry's Auto Body, Garden City Park, NY for 35 years, where he formed Terry's Car Club, with weekly meetings and car show at the shop in Garden City Park. He shared his love of antique cars with over 150 members of the Car Club.

In 2005 he retired/closed Terry's Auto Body and stayed in NY for 2 more years before moving to Penrose, NC in 2007, with the love of his life, Denise Daniels. He loved gardening, birding and wandering about the mountains of NC with Denise. In 2012 Jim and Denise started J & D's Delights - Homemade Jam/Jellies. The "J" of J & D worked hard decorating the "toppers" for the jam jars. He also "stuffed" the weekly Rugelach that Denise sold at the Transylvania Farmers Market.

He is survived by the love of his life Denise Chero Daniels, her son, Brett Daniels (Morgan) of Houston, TX, his sister, Camille Ziegler (Don) of Brevard, NC, three children; Jim K. Cornwell (Donna) of Kings Park, NY, Donna Cornwell White of Commack, NY, Billy Cornwell (Krissy) of Commack, NY and six grand-children Rachel White, Julia White, Stephanie Cornwell, Lauren Cornwell, Kelsey Daniels, Owen Daniels and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care of Jimmie during this time.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 4:00 -6:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the home in Penrose, NC.
