James Salter

James A. Salter, 80, of Brevard, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Born in Valdosta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Albert and Callie Tapley Salter. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary "Sissy" Salter, his brothers Edwin Salter and Jerry Salter; and sister Betty Clark.

A United States Army Veteran, Mr. Salter was a member of Enon Baptist Church where he chaired the Building and Grounds Committee for several years. He retired from Ball Glass Company in Asheville after over 30 years of service. A loving husband, father and grandfather that enjoyed Blue Grass music, he found great joy in teaching his grandchildren the fine art of fishing.

His survivors include his sons Charles Albert Salter of Brevard; Russell Salter (Tracy) of Sylva, NC, and Paul Lewis Salter (Sarah Jo) of Krum, Texas; brother Jackie Salter of Brevard, sisters Penny Smith of Brevard and Violet Sorenson of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Ruth Elizabeth Salter, Michael James Salter, Augustus Lane Salter and Lucas Cord Salter and special nieces Ashley Clark and Lori Shipman.

Funeral services for James Salter will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations in Brevard with Rev. Tommy Madden officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on
