James Legere

Jim LeGere, 77, of Connestee Falls, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019 surrounded by friends and family at Solace Hospice in Asheville.
He was born in Oak Park, Illinois and was a graduate of Princeton University and received his MBA from the University of Chicago.
In 1963, he joined the Quaker Oats Company and accepted positions of increasing responsibility until retiring as a Vice President of Information Services 37 years later.

Jim and his wife, Martha, were married in 1968 and settled in Chicago. Their son, Scott, "a true gift from God," said Jim, was born in 1975. Soon after Jim and Martha came to faith in Christ, they became "on fire for the church," as he often termed it, and spent much of the rest of their life together spreading the gospel in local churches and in foreign countries.

In 2000, Jim retired and the couple moved to a lakeside home in Connestee Falls. There, Jim enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking, tennis, pickelball and biking. He and Martha went on a number of hiking and biking trips in the area and abroad. Jim was active in local churches, serving where needed, including in outreach and mission ministries. He was also an active volunteer with SAFE, a local organization aiding victims of domestic violence, serving on its board in various capacities, including president.

Music was always important in his life. He shared his talents in churches, in the Connestee Chorale and in a local folk group, both singing and playing guitar. Jim is survived by Martha, his wife of 51 years; son Scott LeGere and his wife, Kelly, of Minneapolis; their daughter, Lena, 6, and a niece, Cathi Sanders, of Healdsburg, California, and her family.

A Memorial service will be held at Connestee Falls in the Cherokee Room on March 8, 2019 at 1:00PM.
