James Jones

Brevard, NC

James Carroll Jones, 84, went to be with Jesus on September 29, 2022, at his home after a three-month illness.  A native of Jackson County, he moved to Transylvania County at an early age. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Nelson and Beulah Owen Jones and his brother Henry Lionel Jones.

After the death of his father in 1942; he and his family moved to the Silversteen Community in Lake Toxaway to his grandfather’s farm. He graduated from Rosman High School in 1957 and went to work at Ecusta.  He retired in 1999.  He was an avid motorcycle rider, enjoying many trips in his majestic North Carolina mountains and several trips to the western states visiting the National Parks.  He was a NASCAR and Brevard Blue Devil fan.  He loved to fish, hunt, and talk cars, especially Chevrolets.   He was a self-taught guitarist.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and enjoyed the Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church radio ministry during the COVID pandemic.

He was survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Frances Rogers Jones, of the home; one daughter (his Little Punkin’), Valerie Bigelow (Tom) of Florida; Papaw to two grandsons: Alex Bigelow and Max Bigelow (Melanie); three sisters: Velma Hawkins, Olivene Lyday and Anna Lou Owen; sisters-in-law: Doris Jones and their families.

Private services will be held at Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations.  Interment will be at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Processing Center, P. O. Box 947765, Atlanta, GA  30394.
