Jack Essenberg

Jack Essenberg, 84, of Brevard, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Tore's Home.

A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., he was a son of the late Jacob and Martha Degroot Essenberg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Kay Essenberg, a sister; Florence Heuvelhorst, and two brother-in-law's; Max Heuvelhorst and Robert Veldman.

Jack followed in his father's footsteps and working in the family furniture factory for many years. He later worked for Vandenberg Brothers in Grand Rapids, MI. He then worked for 28 years in sales and management for Broyhill Furniture and 12 years in sales for La-Z-Boy Furniture before retiring. He and his family moved frequently with the business.

Jack was an avid softball pitcher, youth coach and golfer. His church was a priority to him and his family. He served in many positions in numerous churches. He was also a very accomplished vocalist of gospel music.

He is survived by four sons; Don Essenberg (Caryl) of Summerfield, NC, Dan "Coach" Essenberg (Beth) of Brevard, NC, Ron Essenberg of West Jefferson, NC and Jon Essenberg (Jodi) of Wilmington, NC, one sister; Bernice Veldman, eight grandchildren, four Great - Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
