Imogene Eaker

Imogene Monteith Eaker, 95, of Brevard, died on August 30, 2018, at Kingsbridge House. Imogene was born January 4, 1923, in Valleytown, Cherokee County, NC to the late Harley Bowen and Dixie Moss Monteith.

She was raised in Bushnell, NC and graduated from Swain County High School. Imogene moved to Brevard in the early 1940's, where she was an active participant in her community. She met her husband of 49 years, the late Herman H. Eaker in Brevard.

Imogene was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church and served her church in many capacities until her health declined. She worked for the Five and Dime, Farmers Federation, Brevard College (where she also received her degree) and Duke Power Company.

After retiring, Imogene volunteered at the Sharing House and was on the Board of Directors there. She was active in the Duke retirement program as well as her husband's military retirement program.

She loved the adventures of the outdoors and travel, but she also loved the adventures of literature and song.

In addition to her parents and husband, Imogene was preceded in death by her siblings Keith Monteith, Grace Monteith Whitford, Dennis Monteith, James Monteith, and Dale Monteith.

Imogene is survived by her daughter Sara Eaker McMahon, son-in-law Danny, grandchildren Chris Worley and wife Jennifer, Summer McNeely and husband Jerry, two great grandchildren Max Worley and Samuel McNeely, a daughter in heart Alice Taylor and husband Floyd, several brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private family service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church Vision Fund, 10 Holden Rd., Brevard, NC 28712 or Care Partners Adult Day Services, 23 Medical Park Dr., Brevard, NC 28712.

Thanks to Care Partners Hospice and Kingsbridge House for making her last days good ones.
