Harry Smith

Brevard, North Carolina

Harry Delmar Smith, 92, of Brevard, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018. A native of Dundee, NY, he was the son of the late Charles Frederick and Gladys Stanton Smith. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, June Miller, and his brothers William Smith and Frederick Smith.
A World War II Navy veteran, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University and worked for a number of years in the construction of the Eisenhower Interstate System before becoming an asphalt plant manager.
An avid woodworker who loved to build furniture for his family, he also enjoyed golf and building stone walls and was a voracious reader.
His loving survivors include his wife of 72 years, Dorah W. Smith; children Cathie Smith Keenan (Clarke) of Westwood, MA, Garrett Evan Smith (Janette) of Osage Beach, MO, and Dana Norman Smith (Claire) of Apex, NC; grandchildren: Wade Smith (Ashley), Kalen Smith (Celinda), Tyler Smith, Amanda Zeiger (Kyle) and Jesse Smith; great-grandchildren Luca Smith, Lily Smith, Cora Smith, Scarlet Smith, Evan Zeiger and Nathan Zeiger; and brother Charles Smith (Chari) of Speculator, NY.
A Memorial Service for Harry Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the English Chapel United Methodist Church in Pisgah Forest with Rev. Evelyn Patterson and Rev. Marcus Dodson officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Care Partners Hospice, 1266 Asheville Hwy Suite 5, Brevard, NC 28712.
