Grace Austin

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William France Austin, parents; Joseph W. and Irisie Ball Baynard, siblings; Gladys Baker, J.D Baynard, Grady Baynard, and Ruby Rigdon. Grace was a native of Transylvania County and a graduate of Brevard High school. She was employed for 18 years as a teacher’s assistant by the Transylvania County school system.  

Grace loved her church and was a very faithful and longtime member of Blantyre Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and leading the GA’s. Grace loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and kept many of them before they started school. In her spare time, she also enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheting, gardening, and researching her family tree.  

She is survived by her three children; Brenda Frizzell (Ed), Teresa Dodson (Randal), and Doug Austin (Lynn), all residing locally, grandchildren; Billy Dodson (Nyla), Sheri Dodson (fiancé Chris), Mark Frizzell (Lacey), Hannah McNeill (Nate), Tyler Austin, and Savanna Randall (Corey), ten great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Harold Austin, and sister-in-law Christine Hamilton.  

The family would like to acknowledge Grace’s wonderful group of caregivers; Tracey, Shawna, Melodie, Sheri, Meghann, and Sharon. Thank you for treating our mom as if she was your own. Words alone aren’t enough to show our thanks for being the Angels we needed during this time. We will be forever grateful for the love you showed our mom.  

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday January 19, 2024, at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory per Grace’s wishes. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ron Nelson, grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
