George Herbert Brank, age 84, of Brevard, NC died on June 2 after a heroic battle with cancer. George was born on December 5, 1938, to Howard Vance Brank and Mary Lou Brank Bagwell in Asheville. As a teenager, his family moved to Miami, Florida where he graduated from North Miami High School. George served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves for five years. He raised his children in Hollywood, Florida and lived there for many years before returning to the mountains of North Carolina. Following a lengthy career as an electrician, he retired from the University of North Carolina at Asheville where he was the Head of Engineering.

George was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Lorraine Newman, and his beloved wife Madeline. He is survived by his daughters Teri Vickers (Jim), Susan Lee (Keith), and Kim Brank (Todd), as well as his grandchildren, Alan, Joe, Kristi, Nick, Ryan, Greg, Jenny, Heather, Carrie, and Tyler, many great grandchildren, a niece, Linda Newman, and his first wife, Sue Van Fossen with whom he shared a lifelong friendship. He will be remembered with love by his family, friends, and neighbors.

All who knew George recognized him as a force of nature. His sternness and high standards were matched only by his tenderness for his grandchildren. Madeline and George built their home and cultivated their home and yard with diligence and sweat equity. They loved one another deeply and were partners in every way. Despite a battle with cancer that spanned more than two decades, he fought with valor and integrity, rarely missing work and never slowing down. George was a living monument of excellence, perseverance, and tenacity.

A private service for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue (PO Box 7895, St. Petersburg, FL 33734); His Kids Child Development Center Scholarship Fund (PO Box 305, East Flat Rock, NC 28726) or East Jackson High School Basketball (1201 Ruddy Duck Rd., Jefferson, GA 30549).
