Pisgah Forest - Doris Strealdorf died peacefully at her home February 4, 2009. She was born and grew up in Glen Carbon, IL. In 1954, she married John, and they shared 54 years together, John preceding her in death by three months. Their ashes will be buried together. Doris is survived by her younger brother William Aksamit of IL.



Doris and John retired to the mountains of N.C. in 1985, building their home in the woodlands by a waterfall, a place of constant joy. They hiked the majestic mountains, Doris logging 2000 miles over the years with the Pisgah Hikers; when health problems slowed her pace, she still went picnicking to the top of Mt. Pisgah and tubing down Davidson River. She loved the mountains.



Doris was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Brevard, active in ECW and a devoted volunteer at The Shop of St. Philip's. A Memorial Service for Doris will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. Philip's Episcopal Church with Rev. Rob Fields officiating. Family will receive friends immediately following the service in Miller Hall.
