Donald Lee Moore, Jr. was a devoted husband, dedicated father, loving grandfather, dear friend and colleague, lifelong athlete, and avid traveler. He was born on July 6, 1944, and passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017. Don and his wife, Rosie Moore, were happily married for 50 years and had 5 children and 11 grandchildren.

Don was a native of Brevard, North Carolina, where he graduated from Brevard High School. As a young man, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He received a BS in Engineering from North Carolina State University, where he played basketball for Coaches Everett Case and Press Maravich and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. In addition, Don received an MBA from Georgia Southern University. After college, he worked for General Electric before moving to Savannah, Georgia. He was founder and CEO of DL Moore, Inc., focusing on real estate development and construction for 37 years.

Don's service to the Savannah community included the Savannah YMCA, the United Way, the Savannah Country Day School, the Savannah Yacht Club, the Savannah Downtown Rotary Club, and numerous other boards. When he retired to Brevard in 2006, Don continued his active community service through Brevard College, where he served as Chairman of the Board, as well as with Transylvania Vocational Services, and the Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County. He was also a longtime board member of the Blue Ridge Assembly YMCA in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Don was a dedicated family man, well known for his kindness and generosity. He consistently demonstrated a genuine concern for the happiness and well-being of others, especially family and friends. Always willing to go the extra mile to help someone in need, he led by example, and inspired those around him to be the best they could be. Most of all, Don will be remembered for his ability to make people feel special.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Lee Moore, Sr. and Cornelia Ratchford Moore, and his son, Donald Lee Moore III. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Roselyn Chandler Moore; four daughters: Natalie Moore Solomon (Edmund James Solomon III) of Atlanta, GA; Jennifer Moore Black (Ralph Robinson Black) of Charleston, SC; Katie Moore Durkee (Stephen Murphey Durkee) of Macon, GA; Jaime Moore Wall (Benjamin Rutledge Wall II) of Spartanburg, SC; daughter-in-law Stephanie Smith Moore; grandchildren Mary Leland and Edmund James Solomon IV; Charlotte Roselyn, Charles Marion and Henry Whitaker Black; Stephen Murphey, Jr. and Sara Kate Durkee; Roselyn Chandler, Natalie Adair and Benjamin Rutledge Wall III; and Leeanna Carolyn Moore; sister-in-law Susan Chandler Cole (Lanny Cole); and niece Katherine Cole Long (Paul Edward Long).

A service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 325 North Broad Street, Brevard, NC with Reverend Mike Holder and Reverend Lauren Sims-Salata officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Straus Park Lake House, 89 Pine Mountain Trail, Brevard, NC.
