Catherine Coulter Turbyfill, of Brevard, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born on November 22, 1927, in Swannanoa, North Carolina, to Harry Bryan Coulter and the former Nina Wray Ramseur. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Gerald Lehman Turbyfill, a brother, Harry Duard Coulter and a great grandson.
Her surviving children include her daughter Debbie Loeb (Doug) of Brevard North Carolina, son Mike Turbyfill (Lucy) of Sugar Grove, North Carolina, and daughter Martha Post (Sterling) of Brevard, North Carolina. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Catherine, known as “Cat” to her many friends, grew up on a dairy farm in Startown, North Carolina. She graduated from Startown High School and attended Lenoir-Rhyne University. After marrying her husband in 1950, she spent over twenty years moving up and down the eastern United States with her family while her husband worked for a consultant company in the area of textiles. Catherine and her late husband “Turby” eventually retired from Atlanta and spent years living on Lake Hartwell before moving to Connestee Falls in 2004.
She was a dedicated homemaker, skilled in sewing, making many of her and her children’s clothes as well as quilting. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and being with friends and neighbors. She is remembered as “Meme” to her grandchildren and great- grandchildren and was adored by them all. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making cookies for the family and neighbors. Catherine’s legacy will live on through the love she shared, the memories she created and the impact she left on those who were fortunate to know her.
Catherine was a dedicated member of Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon for many years. A Memorial Service will be held at BDRPC on Saturday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her church, Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian, 249 E. Main St., Brevard, NC 28712 or to Sharing House, P. O Box, 985, Brevard, NC.
