Billie Hart Payne

Billie Hart Payne, 89, of Easley, SC, formerly of Brevard, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. A native of Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late William Ansel and Pearl Tinsley Hart.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Earl Payne, Jr. and her sisters, Wanda Sue Hart and Jane Anne Olawsky.

A 1951 graduate of Brevard High School, Billie was employed by Ecusta/Olin and later by First Baptist Church W.E.E. School program where she served as the program director for ten years. She was always involved in serving God through the church, especially in missions.

She enjoyed painting, reading books, spending summers going on adventures with her grandkids, watching Braves baseball and worshiping in church every week. In more recent years, though her memory was failing, she found joy in every day and her day could always be made brighter with a milkshake from Arby’s. 

Her greatest love was always her family: her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that also brightened her days.
Her loving survivors include her son Thomas Patrick Payne and wife Lisa of Fairview, NC and daughter Suzanne Payne Hall and husband Cary of Easley, SC; grandchildren Thomas Kyle Payne and wife Carter, Lydia Anne Moats and husband Jeffrey, Marlowe Newsome and husband Jordan and Luke Hall and wife Kalie; great-granddaughter, Emmy Jo Payne, and great-grandsons Thomas River Payne, Jackson Newsome, Charlie Luke Moats and Thomas Gray Moats.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Billie Payne will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 10, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Brevard. Interment will follow at Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery in Brevard. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM -1:45PM, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Billie's name to First Baptist Church for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, 94 S. Gaston St., Brevard, NC 28712.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the caregivers at College Walk, Foothills Retirement and Clemson Heritage over the past nine years.
