Beulah Meier

North Carolina

Beulah O'Brien Meier, 101, died Wednesday, September third in Brevard, North Carolina where she had lived for the past nine years. She was born in Indianapolis. Her father was the financial editor of the Indianapolis News, at one time the sister publication of the Star. She outlived her six siblings and is survived by thirteen nephews and nieces, their spouses, and offspring. Those living locally are Donna Curran, Darlene Campbell, Jeanie Richardson, Myra Smith, Diane Austin, Vickie Combs, and Pam Combs.

Mrs. Meier and her husband, Victor, also an Indianapolis native, moved to Miami, Florida. He, a Navy Sea Bee, served three years in the Pacific during World War II. When he joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars, she became an auxiliary member. He died in 1975. She was a "volunteer extraordinaire" for she gave over 62,000 tabulated hours working at the Veteran's Medical Center, her various organizations, and the Chapel service. She was a Presbyterian. She received numerous national, state, and local awards including one as the top volunteer of Miami-Dade County, an honor given yearly by J.C. Penney.

Interestingly, Beulah Meier was born with a heart defect that kept her from starting school until she was eight years old. Even so, she lived one hundred and one and a half years.

Arrangements are being made by Hendryx Mortuary. A graveside service will be held Monday September 8 at two pm at St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Cumberland.

A memorial service will be held in Brevard at a later date.
