Betty Smith Patterson

Betty Smith Patterson, 93, of the Quebec Community passed peacefully December 7, 2023 into the arms of her Lord and Savior after a short battle with brain cancer. She was the daughter of the late Thomas A. “Jack” Smith and Drucilla R. Smith and was born in Transylvania County where she lived her entire life. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph K. Patterson; their only son, Daniel “Danny Patterson, siblings Tom Smith, Rebecca Clark and LaVerne Moore; and two very special great-great nieces, Brittany and Hannah Merrill.

Betty was an inspiration and a guiding light in her community. She was a very active member of her church, Oak Grove Baptist. She had three notable jobs in her life: Olin/ Ecusta, Mitchell-Bissell, where she retired, and that of a mother and a homemaker.

Her loving survivors include her niece, Rachael Hudson and husband David of Quebec, who were able to fulfill her final wish of being able to stay at her family home until she was called into the arms of her Lord. She is also survived by her nephew, Stanley Moore and his wife Denise; great-nephew Bradley and his family, and Jacob Moore; brother-in-law Gerald Moore, who checked on Betty every day.

Also surviving is her favorite great-niece, Anita, and her husband Sam Latham of China Grove, NC and their children Shane, Jr., Courtney, and Cody, and all of their families. Anita had a special place in Betty’s heart; great-nephew Charles and Janahia Hudson of Quebec who she loved dearly along with their children, Colton, Kinsley and Cashton; nephew Garfield Clark and his wife Frances and family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 11, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lake Toxaway where her body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Allen Thompson and Rev. Cliff McKnight will officiate.

Many thanks to her caregivers over the last several months who aided her and her family during her extended illness.

Condolences can be made in the form of donations to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
