Betty Hudson

Brevard, North Carolina

Betty Allen McMillan Hudson, 81, of Brevard, passed on May 11, 2018. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Henry Jordan and Sarah Elizabeth Parsons Allen. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, John H. McMillan, Jr. (1999) and Edward Osborne "E.O." Hudson, Jr. (2012), and sister-in-law Steven (Stevie) Coyle Allen.

After graduating from Orangeburg High School in 1954, she went to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1958 where she was also a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She later received her Masters of Education in 1978 from The Citadel. She taught in Charleston County and Berkeley County School Systems where she specialized in teaching children with learning disabilities until 1993. She was a charter and current member of St. Peter's Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC and was actively involved with Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC and served as Diocesan President of the Order of the Daughters of the King for the Diocese of South Carolina for three years (1996-1999). While in Brevard, she attended St. Philip's Episcopal Church and St. Patrick's Anglican Church. Much of her life revolved around the church and Bible study.

She also loved living at her beach house on Isle of Palms and taking long walks on the beach with her two dogs, Zeus and Star. Betty enjoyed hiking, bocce, bowling, and water aerobics at Connestee Falls. She was also an avid supporter and volunteer with the Brevard Music Center & Pisgah Wildlife Center.
Her survivors include her daughter, Sonja McMillan Goold (Marc) of Brevard; her brother, Henry Jordan Allen, Jr.; and nephews Henry Jordan "Trey" Allen, III and John Coyle "Jack" Allen.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at St. Peter's Church, 1307 Porchers Bluff Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. at the church. Interment will be at 3:00 PM Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, 6614 Farrell's Road, Branchville, SC 29003 and a reception will follow at McMillan Farm.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Order of the Daughters of the King, Endowment Fund, 101 Weatherstone Drive, Suite 870, Woodstock, Georgia 30188 or St. Peter's Church, Memorial Fund, 1307 Porchers Bluff Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
