Barbara Talley Whitaker

Barbara Talley Whitaker, 89, of The Landings of Mills River, died Monday, August 7, 2023. She was a daughter of the late William Rhett and Callie Green Talley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Whitaker, who died in 2016, two brothers; Bill Talley and Jack Talley, and a sister; Martha Nolen. She was a member of Brevard Wesleyan Church.

Barbara worked at Olin/ Ecusta for many years, she was head teller at Brevard Federal, and operated the switchboard at Brevard College for a time.

Her passion in life was being “MeMaw” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When she was able, she went to all of their sporting events to cheer them on but mostly loved, loving on them.

She is survived by one son: Doug (Susan) Whitaker of Clinton, TN, one daughter: Patti Whitaker (Mike) of Penrose, NC, five grandchildren: Ryan (Susan) Monteith, Keagan (Sarah) Monteith, Madeleine Monteith, Caroline (Taylor) Cross, Natalie Whitaker, seven great grandchildren, one sister-in-law: Carie Talley of Matthews, NC and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services for Barbara will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ray Talley officiating.

The family is very grateful and would like to thank her caregivers, Jan, Missy, Ty, Levan and Anita for the special care she received and Joy in administration while at The Landing of Mills River.
